Watching
the news these days seem like watching the preview to a blockbuster horror
movie. You have people eating each
other, a cult leader killing a 4 year old child in fear of him being
homosexual, flesh eating bacteria, the legalization of animated child
pornography, the KKK wanting to adopt a road, and a psychopath throwing their intestines
at the police.
I find myself asking the
age old question, “What Is this world coming to?” Is it really a sign of the times or is it
just that we are so plugged into the media (tv, internet, camera phones, etc.)
that we are exposed to more base human behavior than ever. Maybe humanity has always been as sick. Now we just have the means to see more random
acts of violence, pure evil, and insanity because of technology. Who knew that our world was much worse than
the movies?
I know this write up seems to be taking a pessimistic turn
especially for such an infinite optimist as myself but for the moment I rather
watch Netflix than risk witnessing the next torture on the evening news. I swear I am beginning to look forward to the
boring puppy tales and silly local eccentric news stories. I wish I could just block out all the chaotic
images and just dwell on rainbows and flowers.
However, my innate urge to know what’s going on the world prevents me
from banning CNN and FOX. To my chagrin,
I have to end this. I’m picking up my
remote. It’s almost 6pm. I look at the TV with one eye open and brace
myself for the evening news.
I like this. This is great.
ReplyDeleteI think what's crazy is that in our little space in the world we can't see or comprehend the ugliness and darkness. We look around our homes at the families we've created and we bask in the love and possibilities...
ReplyDeleteTurning on the news is how we're controlled and pushed into thinking that we NEED certain officials, "things", etc.., we become so afraid and cautious that you forget to live. Well....I have a steady supply of netflix and on demand to save my nerves. :) Very well said Ms Violette.
